Northpole Design & Build is a home renovation and concrete contractor based in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. Two divisions, one crew: interior renovation (kitchens, bathrooms, basements, flooring and painting) and concrete flatwork (driveways, patios, walkways, steps, garage floors and pool decks). We work across the Greater Toronto Area, Waterloo Region, Guelph, Hamilton, the Niagara Region and London, all within southern Ontario.
Who's behind it
Northpole Design & Build is run by Kanwar Bal, who spent eight years in the trade before building this business around a specific frustration: homeowners hiring two separate contractors for one project, with neither accountable when something falls through the gap between them. That experience shapes how every job here is staffed and managed, one crew, one point of contact, from the first measure to the final walkthrough.
How we started
The business grew out of concrete flatwork first. Homeowners who had us build a driveway, a patio, or a garage floor started asking us to handle the rest of the property, so the renovation side grew alongside it, on the same standard. That order of growth shaped how the two divisions work together today. The concrete crew understands load paths, drainage, and Ontario's freeze-thaw cycles. The renovation crew works from the same design files and the same schedule logic. The result is projects that ship without the handoff gaps you normally get when two separate contractors pass a job between them.
How we work
Every project starts with an on-site measure, not an estimate over the phone and not a guess based on square footage. We show up, walk the space, and understand the real constraints, access, drainage, existing conditions, before quoting. Quotes are written, itemized, and fixed. No surprise change orders halfway through a job.
Trades are in-house or long-term partners, not whoever happens to be free that week. That keeps sequencing tight, quality consistent, and communication simple: you are not re-explaining your scope to three different people over the course of a project.
Concrete
Our concrete work covers driveways, patios, walkways, steps, pool decks, and garage floors for residential and light commercial properties. Every pour starts with subgrade compaction and a properly compacted granular base, with reinforcement sized to the load and the climate. We finish in broom, exposed aggregate, stamped pattern, or smooth trowel depending on the project. In Ontario winters, base preparation matters more than the finish coat, and that is where a lot of contractors cut corners. We do not.
Renovations
Renovation work covers kitchens, bathrooms, basements (including legal secondary suites with full permit support), painting, and flooring. Kitchens and bathrooms typically run two to four weeks. Basements and secondary suites take longer, six to ten weeks is common, because the scope pulls in framing, electrical, plumbing, insulation, egress, and fire separation. We handle the design, the permits, the inspections, and the build, so you are dealing with one person for the whole project, not three trades who have never spoken to each other.

We work across the GTA, Kitchener-Waterloo-Cambridge, Guelph, Hamilton, and Niagara. That is not a marketing claim, we run active projects in each of those areas and know the permitting requirements, supply chains, and seasonal constraints specific to each one.
